So finally, the wedding day is here. Your little darling is getting married, and heart is whirling with mixed emotions. On the one hand, you are happy that your daughter is off to start her own family. On the other hand, you feel some sadness because your little angels’ flying away to another nest from today for a completely new life, without your protection, care and comfort.

To make things simpler for you we created our Father of the Bride Speech E-Book. We created 20 sample speeches and some helpful pointers for writing the speech. We like to think that our speeches and guidance only helps you put your best foot forward in front of your friends and family.

Of course, for every father you want to fit into the archetypical strong father mold. Your daughter has leaned on you for years and years. Now, as her wedding day approaches it is important to retain that image of strength and guidance. So shed away all those nervous feelings and ignore the flying butterflies.

Your job on her wedding day is to happily hand over your daughter’s hand in marriage to your deserving son-in-law. This Father of the Bride Speech E-Book aims at providing you with solutions for a classic speech for your lil’ darling. Some of the aspects covered in this E-Book are speech samples, body etiquette, overcoming your emotions, and other related issues.
From nervous amateur to seasoned MC, this Father of the Bride Speech E-Book provides you with the needed insight on how to structure your speech. The right openers, hilarious one-liners and touching toasts. You will be amazed at how the book brings out the best in you, no matter what style is.

Like all-important things in life, your daughter’s wedding needs pre- planning and adequate preparation. Sometimes it is better to start planning months before the event so that you are well prepared. While going through the various sections of this EBook, you will notice that you are preparing yourself as an individual for a grand celebration, well in advance.

A wedding ceremony is incomplete without wedding speeches and toasts. Wedding speeches form a part of the many traditions that a wedding ceremony must follow. Though it has been mandatory for the men to make all the wedding speeches on the D-day, these days even brides and brides maid’s go on to give their wedding speeches. The first one to start a series of wedding speeches in a traditional wedding ceremony is always the father of the bride.
The father of the bride raises a toast to the newly weds and guests and gives his speech which is followed by the groom who must thank him for opening the wedding speeches at the wedding ceremony. Writing a father of the bride wedding speech is not as difficult as it seems though. A little research and creativity can land you with a father of the bride wedding speech that is sure to leave everyone with a smile on their faces. A winning shot at the wedding of your darling angel assured. Remember, that the father is the pillar of strength and a source of constant guidance for the bride. It is therefore of particular importance on how he conducts himself before and after the ceremony; how he mingles with the crowd; how he addresses the gathering. In a nutshell, everything, just everything to make the grand wedding grander can be done with the help of a simple speech.

One thing that you need to do here is imagine Steve Martin in the classic movie ‘Father of the Bride’ and you would realize how much you could empathize with that character. However, it is the day when your darling would be waiting to put her arms
around you after the speech, and cry tears of joy. The emotions of happiness and parting have to be merged in an ecstatic combination in the speech.

Only professional speechwriters enjoy writing wedding speeches. For most dads, their experience with public speaking is limited to a Thanksgiving day prayer.

So how do you overcome the challenges and deliver a touching and unique father of the bride speech? I’ll break down the different elements that make up a successful father of the bride toast.

Tone of the Speech

The tone of the father of the bride speech should border on being wildly optimistic. No time to be a “Debbie downer” especially about the institution of marriage. Even if you think that marriage is painful, you need to portray a sense of optimism. Secondly, you have to come across as being positive about your new son in law.

Structure

There is a typical father of the bride speech structure. You can follow a speech template if you want to get a better idea of what it is supposed to look like.

The structure is like your blueprint and it’s most important that you write the speech in a methodical fashion. The structure includes:

a) welcome the guests
b) touching words about your daughter
c) welcoming the groom to the family
d) making a toast to the newlyweds.

As you can see there is little creative writing. Most of the speech is just standard protocol.

How to Speak About Daughter

Father Of The Bride Speeches are about your special and unique relationship with your daughter. You shouldn’t set out to mock her. Commonly, men confuse the fact that wedding humor is generally confined to the best man. Thus, your job is not to make the audience laugh. In many ways this makes your job more difficult as you have to write in a more heartfelt manner and you can’t hide behind humor. For touching stories you can talk about how you felt when you first laid eyes on your baby girl or when you discovered her unique personality traits as a child.

Other Formalities

You will also be speaking on behalf of the bride’s mother. In modern wedding receptions, the mother also speaks. This means that you want to make sure not to overlap your content with your wife.

Finally, toast is to the bride and groom.

You can see an example of a father of the bride speech that you can use a template.

Social Bookmarking

Most of us has want to entertain our wedding audience. As father of the bride, you are host of the party and you want to make sure that your guests enjoy themselves.

The fact is, if you know how, that’s not really hard. The next few paragraphs can guide you to reach your objective and write a funny father of the bride speech. In order to know how, just simply continue reading; learn to write a funny father of the bride speech in 3 simple steps…

The all-important initial step is going to be to focus on funny stories rather than witty one liners. The reason why you do this is that jokes can seem recycled or irrelevant. You will need to avoid offensive jokes but we won’t touch on that in this article.

You will need to do this initial step correctly, completely and well. In the event you should fail with this then you should expect .

The second step is to brainstorm for embarrassing stories about your daughter. Things to avoid here are things that she is sensitive about. Maybe she had buck teeth as little girl and she’s still sensitive about it. Again, tread lightly and focus on slightly amusing stories rather than the “laughing in the aisles” type of stories .

Your third and final step will be to think of some humor about the groom. As men are generally a little more thick skinned when it comes to teasing you can make jokes about the groom with less restraint . In this step it’ll be very important to avoid forgetting to welcome the groom into the family. If you just make fun of him but don’t welcome him in the family, some guests will presume that you do not like the groom.

You need to follow all of these 3 steps carefully. Steer clear of the potential problems explained. After you do these things right, you’ll have few or no difficulties or problems.

Then you should write a funny father of the bride speech effectively and well, with ease and speed. All that’ll be left to do is going to be to celebrate your success!

Here are some tips about father of the bride speech etiquette that will help you prepare for your upcoming wedding. Etiquette is an overlooked topic for most father of the brides and you won’t want to miss these tips.

Often times, father of the bride etiquette is the last thing on the mind of most men. The attitude is usually “I paid for the wedding so I can pretty much say whatever I damn well please.” Most men spend the majority of their time on the speech structure or outline and not enough time on etiquette.

Here are a few tips to ensure that you do not embarrass yourself with poor father of the bride speech etiquette.

First of all, it is important to keep your speech within the proper time frame. Traditional etiquette means that you should only speak for about five minutes which is about 650 typed words. If you ramble on and get off points you will not only annoy some of the guests in the audience but you will also be taking away time from the other speakers.

Of course you will want a little bit of humor in your speech but you should tread carefully with embarrassing stories about your daughter. Her wedding day is a sensitive time and she wants to look good in front of the groom’s family. You want to make sure that your embarrassing story about her past is not something that she is sensitive about. The best bet is to double check your material with your wife.

Finally, my last tip for father of the bride speech etiquette is to warmly welcome the groom into the family. Even if you absolutely despise the groom and you are severely disappointed that he is marrying her you still must welcome the groom and the family. It is the gentlemanly thing to do. I have been at weddings for the father of the bride has neglected to welcome groom into the family and guests were talking about how the father of the bride is unhappy about his daughter’s choice of spouse.

If you’re looking for more tips about the father of the bride speech and wedding toast etiquette our guidebook has dozens of great tips.

Father of the Bride wedding speeches is a great launching pad for your wedding speech. Personalize a template by entering your unique information where you see (brackets).

If you want a breakdown on the five different parts of a father of the bride speech, check out our post on how to write a father of the bride speech.

If you’re looking for more examples, these wedding speech articles will help you with dozens of examples that you can add to your speech. You’ll find examples of jokes and toasts that you can use right now.

Ladies and gentlemen, family and friends, good evening.

First of all let me welcome all of the guests and say thank you for being with us here today. You make the atmosphere of this wedding reception so joyous and festive. We are grateful to share this day with family members and relatives from both sides.

I would especially like to welcome those who traveled a long way to come here. Aunt (name) was stuck in an airport for over twelve hours just to be here today.

To be honest with you, throughout the day I have been looking at my daughter in her wedding gown, so elegant, solemn and glowing with happiness – like a gentle white rose on a spring morning – and I still couldn’t believe my eyes. It seems to me that just yesterday (name of wife) were standing at the altar exchanging our own vows and a kiss. Now the finest product of our marriage, our daughter, that adorable brown-eyed baby, has embarked on her own family.

While writing this speech my mind was flush with a thousand and one memories of (bride). Some of you know (bride) as a talented (enter bride’s job) nurse; for others she is an industrious cook; many of us know her as a loyal friend. For me, she will be always be daddy’s little girl with long blonde locks. She will always be the little girl staring at me with those giant brown eyes as wide as a pumpkin. One of my fondest memories was the day she was born; a dreary February morning where grey turns to grey. Despite the weather, it was a day that felt like the first day of spring. I remember her trudging off to school and returning with her books filled with sketches of a happy family in a happy home. She always wanted a lovely family of her own and now she is well on her way. Some things never change.

As she would lay her head to rest, she would force me to read her favorite fairy tales over and over again. She never tired of guessing about what her Prince Charming would look like and how he would warmly cuddle her in the night. Her own fairy tale is coming true today.

(Groom) is the type of man that makes it possible to live happily ever after. I am thrilled for (bride) and (groom), and I am sure they are a exquisite match, for they fit each other as two pieces of a puzzle. I won’t bore the newlyweds with lengthy pieces of advice regarding marriage – always remember that your marital bliss rests in your hands and your hands only. I am sure that you will build a cozy home that will serve as a safe harbor in the storms of life.

I can only wish you love and tolerance. As one wise man once said, “a successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person.”

Finally, I will share with you a lyric that guided me through my marriage. It is taken from our youth in the 1970′s. John Lennon sang: “Love is knowing, We can be. Love is free, free is love, Love is living, living love, Love is needing to be loved.”

Please join me in a toast to the (bride) and (the groom), and their everlasting love.

There’s an example of a father of the bride speech for you.

If you’re looking for more father of the bride speech examples our best selling guidebook has 15 speech templates that can help you finish your speech.

Father of the bride toasts are one of the most eagerly anticipated speeches of the evening.

The structure of the speech is similar to matter what type of toast, you plan to deliver. You can view an example of a father of the bride toast that follows a traditional structure.

You will first welcome all of the guests. You are viewed as the host of the wedding even if the parents of the groom have contributed financially. When you welcome the guests it is customary to focus on out-of-town guests who have traveled many miles to attend the wedding of your daughter.

Secondly, you will point out any people who were especially helpful in putting the wedding together. For example, you might have a sister who organized the catering or flower arrangement. It is important not to forget that you thank these special people near the beginning of your father of the bride toast.

The majority of your speech will focus on compliments for the bride. Normally, you will talk about how beautiful she looks on her wedding day. More importantly, you want to bring attention to her special skills and personality traits that make her unique. Rather than simply list characteristics, try to tell a story that conveys her personality. For example, you might tell a story about how dedicated she was to her gymnastics training in high school that enabled her to win a championship.

Since your speech will only be 5 to 7 minutes long you probably will only have enough time for one touching story.

Most challenging part of your father of the bride toast is talking about your emotions. You are expected to tell the audience about how you feel now that your daughter is married.

Finally, finish your speech with a toast to the bride and groom.

Here’s a sample father of the bride toast:

“It is customary on an occasion such as this for the father of the bride to offer the newlyweds some profound piece of advice, so here it goes … Happy marriages begin when we marry the one we love … they blossom when we love the one we married. When children find true love, parents find true joy. Here’s to your joy and ours from this day forward.

Ladies and Gentlemen, please stand, raise your glasses and drink a toast with me to the health and happiness of (groom) and (bride).

To (bride) and (groom)!”

You might want to add some father of the bride jokes to your wedding speech. Jokes and comedic stories are excellent ways for ending your speech.

The father of the bride speech is about 5 to 7 minutes meaning that any long jokes will not be well-suited. You should focus on witty one-liners in order to ensure that you do not go over your allotted time.

In order to come up with a joke I recommend that you consult with some of your witty friends or even a professional speech writer. The Internet is another great resource and you can look for quotes by writers like Mark Twain and Charles Dickens. This website has lots of one-liners and wedding jokes about marriage.

There are certain topics that you should avoid in your speech. Do not discuss sex politics or religion. You will not know half of the wedding audience making it easy to offend certain people. For example, I was at one wedding where the father of the bride made a joke about George Bush. He did not take into consideration that groom’s family were lifelong Republicans.

If you read this sample father of the bride speech you will notice that it does not have any humor. It is not easy to add humor to the speech because it is generally a sentimental and emotional speech. Nonetheless, adding a joke to this father of the bride toast would enhance the speech.

An example of a father of the bride joke would be:

“There are two times a man doesn’t understand a woman, before marriage and after marriage!”

“A little boy asked his father, “Daddy, how much does it cost to get married?” And the father replied, “I don’t know, son, I’m still paying for it.”"

For more examples of father of the bride speech jokes and one-liners you can use a Father of the Bride speech guidebook.

A father of the bride toast follow certain structure. Proper format for your father of the bride toast makes writing and delivering the speech easier.
Wedding speeches for the father of the bride are a point of great frustration for many men. To ease the anxiety, I’m going to offer a few of my father of bride speech tips that I’ve picked up in my decade of professional speech writing.

My first father of the bride speech tip is to ensure that you are not nervous during the reception. No, I’m not recommending that you drink three or four martinis! In order to limit nervousness you need to be well prepared. Be sure to write your speech entirely and you should stay within the normal father of the bride speech outline. You’ll notice that every speech follows this five part structure.

Being well prepared is not only writing out a great speech, but it is means practicing your speech. I recommend that you perform your father of the bride speech in front of a few people from different age groups. It is recommended that you rehearse your speech for one hour in order to memorize your opener and your wedding toast.

My second tip is to make sure that your speech is short and to the point. There’s nothing worse than having to listen to a lengthy, rambling speech that’s someone clearly is just winging. The proper time limit for a speech is about 5 to 7 minutes. You will find that after your introduction and your “thank you’s” you will actually not half a lot of time to share stories about your daughter.

My third father of the bride speech tip is to avoid vague or commonly used expressions. One example might be something like “you mean the world to me” or “I am proud to be your father.” You want to be specific in your father of the bride speech and tell stories rather than just listing characteristics about your daughter.

You can find more father of the bride speech tips and sample speeches in our brand new guidebook.
Wedding speeches for the father of the bride follow a simple structure. Once you have the time-tested father of the bride speech outline in front of you it is relatively simple to structure your speech.

The first thing to remember is that structure demands that you have a beginning, middle and an end. You would be surprised at how many speeches lack either a proper introduction or proper conclusion. The correct structure ensures that you stay on topic and that the audience can follow you.

Look at a sample father of the bride speech in order to get a feel for what the speech is supposed to look like.

Secondly, the time of your introduction should be relatively equal to the time of your conclusion. The speech structure will be centered around the body of your speech.

The last thing that I will say about the father of the bride speech structure is to remember that your speech will have five major components. They are as follows:

1.	Introduction: introduce yourself to the wedding guests who do not know you. 30% of the speeches I’ve heard do not include a formal introduction because the host assumes that everyone knows him.
2.	Talk about the bride by highlighting one or two characteristics of her personality.
3.	Talk about how your daughter has changed since establishing her relationship with the groom. This is also a good time to welcome the groom into the family.
4.	The next part is to talk about your own feelings. It is usually a bittersweet occasion when your daughter is being given away.
5.	The last part of your speech will be the toast or some type of quotation about love or marriage.

I have written an in depth article about the father of the bride speech outline that will explain the five different parts of your speech.

A father of the bride toasts feature five different parts. Follow this guideline in order to make sure that your speech outline is properly done.

Take a look at a father of the bride toast sample in order to get a feel for the proper structure. This article will help if you want more information about the structure of a father of the bride speech.

First of all, limit your toast to fewer than 700 words. Most of your speech should focus on your description and stories about your daughter.

There is an introduction, a section where you talk about the bride, describe how your baby girl has changed since meeting her husband, talk about your own feelings about giving her away and finish with an optimistic toast.

In the introduction you must introduce yourself. Always remember that a lot of the wedding guests will be from the groom’s side of the family and you will not have met them until after the wedding. Thank the guests for coming to share this special day with you and your family.

Now you want to talk about your daughter. Try to tell a story from when she was a child. For example, she might’ve been a tomboy who beat up fellow child in school. Don’t be afraid of a little bit of razzing for your daughter is that is expected.

The next part of your speech outline is to focus on how your daughter has changed since her relationship with the groom started. For example perhaps the bride rekindled her interests in painting or the arts after the encouragement of the groom.

The fourth part of your father of the bride speech outline is usually the most difficult. Here you are expected to talk about your feelings. It is an emotional experience to give your daughter away in the audience wants to hear about what’s going through your mind and heart. This is also the part of the speech where you will be welcoming the groom into your family.

The final part of your toast outline is to show gratitude to the people who are important in helping you put together the wedding and reception. Lastly, you can conclude your father of the bride toast with an actual toast to the bride and groom.

If you’re still having trouble with the outline, it is always easiest to use sample toasts to help you prepare.
